Forbes Magazine reports on Oregon’s newest AVAs, Tualtin Hills and The Laurelwood District, which both contain the highest concentrations of Laurelwood soils in Oregon. This soil, which is essentially windblown silt sized sediments or loess, produces Pinot Noir in the classical Burgundian style and Chardonnay that is full of white flowers, bright acidity and a hint of salinity.
The petition to the TTB for the Laurelwood District was formally submitted in 2016 by Ponzi Vineyards and Dion Vineyard. In an interview with the second generation winemaker and owner, Luisa Ponzi, exclaimed that “it’s been a decade-long project and is a natural next step towards further defining the Willamette Valley.”
